Scalp Micropigmentation
FAQs
It’s normal to feel nervous about your first scalp micropigmentation session, so focusing on the outcomes instead of your nerves will make a world of difference pre-procedure. Think about after and the confidence you will gain.Knowing what to expect ahead of time will help ease your anxiety. I have compiled this article to answer common questions about SMP.
There are similarities between regular tattooing and SMP because both procedures use needles to lay ink pigments into the skin. But beyond that, the pain involved, healing time and what to expect at the procedure is very different. The needle used in SMP places ink closer to the skin surface so will hurt far less than a regular tattoo.
SMP is primarily used to cover up bald spots or scars, which helps some individuals regain confidence.
Truth be told it’s different for everyone. As mentioned, the pigment is deposited closer to the surface of the skin, so the needle does not need to penetrate deeply like tattoos.
When SMP is performed by a trained professional, there will be less pain and reduction in side effects because they know exactly how to place the needle.
After each treatment, the most common side effect is a mild sunburn sensation on your scalp, which could include redness and an itching sensation. There is also an expectation of some fading between early treatments.
There are more serious side-effects like flu-like symptoms post-procedure, just like getting a tattoo, but these are rare. Before agreeing to treat you, I will always take a full medical history to assess if there are any contraindications for you in undergoing the treatment.
An SMP procedure’s length depends on the size of the treatment area. If you are only looking to cover small bald spots, it may take an hour or two per session. For a more extensive cover, each session can last 4 – 5 hours. There are usually 3 sessions but a fourth may be necessary
Yes, there will be a noticeable difference after one session. Once the sunburn-like irritation fades after a day or so, scabbing may form. During this time, it’s essential NOT to scratch your scalp and loosen the scabs. Within a week, the scabs will fall away naturally, and you will be able to see the effects of your session, which aims to replicate the look of natural, buzz-cut hair.
I provide services for men and women for hair loss, balding and scars.

Permanent Make-up
FAQs
Cosmetic tattooing or Permanent Makeup (PMU) provides a safe and natural-looking alternative to your daily makeup routine. Maybe you hate applying your eyeliner daily or want fuller lips or thicker brows: whatever the reason, permanent makeup may be an option for you.
PMU is sometimes also referred to as tattooed makeup because the process is similar to getting a regular body art tattoo. The procedures are actually very different – in PMU, the pigment is deposited only into the first layers of the skin, whereas regular body tattoos go much deeper.
It depends on the area to be treated and the desired result, but an average session lasts about two hours, including for the numbing process, which takes about 30 minutes.
The most common areas are lips, brows and eyes, and it can also cover scars.
Everyone has a different pain tolerance, which means some people might find the procedure to be only minimally uncomfortable. In contrast, others may find it to be painful even, with a numbing cream. I do my best during the procedure to ensure you are comfortable and reapply numbing cream as required. There are more serious side-effects like flu-like symptoms post-procedure, just like getting a tattoo, but these are rare. Before agreeing to treat you, I will always take a full medical history to assess if there are any contraindications for you in undergoing the treatment.
After each treatment, the most common side effect is a mild stinging sensation which could include redness, swelling and an itching sensation.
Before agreeing to treat you, I will always take a full medical history to assess if there are any contraindications for you in undergoing the treatment. If you’re taking certain prescription medications, a doctor’s consent form will need to be completed – as per my insurance guidelines.
There’s no down time after the PMU procedure. You can leave and go about your daily tasks and even drive yourself home. One thing you can’t do is wear makeup, and it’s advised not to go swimming or for saunas.
You may experience some scabbing as you heal, but it will likely be minimal. If you do have scabbing, do not pick it off, and avoid touching or rubbing the area to prevent the spread of germs or bacteria. I will provide detailed post-procedure care instructions.
